At Breadline Africa we seek out partnerships of hope and growth in Africa by connecting people who are struggling to achieve the most basic living conditions with others who are more fortunate and in a position to make a difference.
One of the ways in which we do this is through our yearly Winter Food Parcel appeal.
I met Nomawethu Lengisi and her children, in Monwabisi township. This is a little settlement on the edge of Khayelitsha. Here she showed me into her miserable shack. Scoured by the relentless sea spray, the metal sides are rusted and peppered with holes. The floor is bare sand, impossible to keep dry, much less warm. |

Our winters are harsh, and shacks like these are battered by the storms that race across the Atlantic. The people here fight pouring rain and floods. They’re always cold, always hungry, and the cold just makes the hunger worse. Like so many women on the fringes of society, Nomawethu’s is a sad story of marital cruelty and abandonment. Now she’s trying to feed her children on her own, and it is heartbreakingly difficult.
Please join me in reaching out to these families in great distress?
For just £15 for a food parcel and £5 for a blanket, you can bring amazing comfort and cheer to people whose lives are so bleak – you’ll help to keep hunger pangs at bay, and offer warmth against the icy winds!
With heartfelt thanks
